Roundness measurement is a two-dimensional quality control process used to quantify how closely an object’s circular cross-section conforms to a perfect circle. These particular machines were designed to measure bearing races up to six feet in diameter, which were used in medical MRI systems. If a bearing race were out of round, the resulting eccentricity would cause the MRI images to become distorted or out of focus, directly impacting image quality and diagnostic accuracy.
